I had to share this gorgeous sunrise run photo from last week. The race is approaching and I’m already missing my early morning quiet times. Training has been an amazing privilege!
Now in my 6th week of training, I have my first marathon-training race this Saturday. It’s a 5k. I am not going to jinx myself by revealing my (very ambitious) goal for this 5k, but I will say that I’m hoping to rock it faster than I ever have before. The logic there is two-fold. First of all, I’ve never run a 5k for time before and I’m actually speed training now for the first time in my life. Therefore, I ought to be guaranteed awesome results, right?
We shall see.
For my easy Monday run this week, I ran the kids to school. I pushed my 2 year old in the stroller while my 5 year old bounced along beside us on his strider bike. Going out with them is one of my favorite ways to “run” my errands. I love seeing that little face look up at me while I run. Isn’t she precious? And my little guy either sings to me or races with me the whole way. I know that I’ll soon treasure the memories of how small and sweet they are right now.
In the meantime, I’m really enjoying 2 consecutive days off running for the first time since mid-January. I recently saw a “You Know You’re a Runner If…” contest where folks submitted how they would fill in the blank. Lots of people said things like, “all of your laundry is running clothes.” One person said, “you feel like something is missing on days when you don’t run.” That’s how I feel right now.
If I had answered, I would have said, “You know you’re a runner if you’re awake before dawn on a cold winter or rainy Sunday morning when the rest of your family is still asleep in their cozy warm beds.” I LOVE running but my little break is warmly welcomed this week.
I just registered for the Santa Rosa Marathon, which will be on August 24, 2014. This is one of the largest Boston Marathon qualifying races in the country and it also happens to be one of the last races of the year within the qualifying window. That means I’m officially in training for the BOSTON MARATHON! OMG. Here we go! BQSTRONG!!
